Can I install the Black-Ops GPS vehicle tracker myself?
This might be the biggest frequently asked question we get and the simple answer is maybe??? If you’re just installing the unit for GPS tracking purposes only it is extremely easy to install. In fact you could just simply attach the positive and negative wire directly to the battery. Hide the unit and away you go. If however you’re wanting to take advantage of the truly unique RIU - Remote Immobilisation Unit, then you may require a professional to help.
We have found that installation on motorcycles is quite simple due to the easy access of the fuel pump assembly and the identification of positive and negative is quite easy to do as well as the accessory wire teed off into something like the tail light. More complicated installations are in modern cars where you need to be a little bit tactical with finding the right fuse for your ignition or fuel system or similar system to override. However any mechanic could easily diagnose this and install the unit quickly.
Will the tracker send my vehicles battery flat?
Short answer, yes. If you left the tracker connected to something with a light weight low cca battery like a dirtbike or go-cart it would likely flatten the battery of the vehicle enough to have it not electric start after a period as short as a fortnight. However a normal motorcycle, JetSki or car battery would support the device for likely months without use before it was an issue.
We would recommend using a battery maintenance charger like a trickle charger on non frequently used vehicles. This is also the recommendation of many battery manufacturers anyway to prolong the life of the battery.
If I activate the RIU and shutdown the vehicle for no reason can I activate it again straight away?
Yes, you simply click mobilise on the app and within 10 seconds your back online and running.
